The Education Specialist is an expert in the specialty of nursing staff development responsible for program and curriculum management. Under the direction of the Director, the Education Specialist leads in the design, implementation and evaluation of educational processes which supports education and practice support within Service Lines. The ES builds programs which supports lifelong learning and facilitates the adult learning process. The ES is directly accountable for strategic program development, implementation and evaluation related to core services.
Develops and implements learning models that increase efficiency and supports quality and safe care. Implements new and innovative uses of technology to support initial orientation. Partners with Service Line Educators and Patient Safety Nurses in planning learning strategies that allow for responsiveness to emerging changes and advances in nursing practice. Develops programs which build partnerships with affiliated schools and facilitates practice readiness. Leads in the development, implementation design of the use of simulation in nursing staff development. Develops and designs new teaching-learning methods and educational practices to provide quality educational services.

Use multiple approaches and sources of information to identify and validate nursing service personnel's learning needs. Facilitates the process for learners to assume their responsibility for maintaining competency in practice. Identifies learning needs of nursing personnel which includes organizational and nursing goals/priorities and available resources.
Designs tools which effectively assess needs. Develops standardized tools and practices for planning components. Implements effective models for faculty selection and contracting. Selects facilities, materials, equipment and technologies appropriates to the educational activity. Uses best practices in preparing materials and equipment.
Formulate a budget proposal for programs. Articulate the rationale for educational costs. Use the established cost analysis model to evaluate the outcome of programs. Collaborates with SLE in monitoring costs and revenue. Design and implement cost effectiveness tools that measure educational outcomes in relation to program costs. Evaluates factors such as safety, effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis.
Utilizes various strategies to collect data, analyze, synthesize and diagnose learning needs. Ensure learning participation in the assessment process. Partners with SLE in aggregating and identifying priorities. Develops and consults on program designs which are inclusive of all design elements. Plans implementation of strategies geared to the learning outcomes. Promotes learning with effective instructional techniques, audio/visual and use of technology. Implementation plans demonstrate cost effectiveness, practice efficiency and preferred learning methods. Educational programs are evaluated using a variety of methods. Evaluation data is used to modify programs as needed. Employs a systems framework to demonstrate accountability for improved patient care. Leverage/maximize the use of technology in providing products and services. Manages knowledge through identifying best practices in staff development ? infuses critical thinking into practice activities. Implements plan using principles and concepts of quality, project/systems management. Coordinates clinical, financial, technical, educational and other resources needed.
Uses the best possible evidence to guide practice decisions. Creates a supportive environment for nursing research, scholarly inquiry, the generation of knowledge and the translation of research into practice. Supports research activities that align with the organizational strategic plan. Participates in research activities at various levels appropriated to the professional development specialist's education and role. Contributes to development of lifelong learning and nursing professional development practice by supporting, conducting or synthesizing research. Disseminates research findings through activities such as presentations, publications, consultation, educational programs, courses, activities and use of other media.
Involves learner and key stakeholders in formulating desired outcomes. Develops outcomes that reflect professional role competence, learning and change. Develops context specific outcomes based on organizational, stakeholders and learner values, goals, current evidence and regulation. Revises outcomes based on changes in stakeholder expectations, trends or evidence. Uses outcomes to demonstrate programs are meeting their intended purpose and quality. Documents outcomes, including those that demonstrate learning and program impact.
Synthesizes data, information, while incorporating theoretical frameworks when providing consultation. Facilitates the effectiveness of a consultation by involving the learner, stakeholder and other specialties in the decision-making process and negotiation of role responsibilities. Communicates consultation recommendations that influence the identified plan, facilitate understanding by stakeholders, enhance the work of others and effect change. Establishes formal and informal consultative relationships that may lead to professional development or mentorship opportunities.

Utilizes high fidelity simulation as a primary methodology for experiencial based learning. Utilizes evidence based current simulation educational strategy in the simulation setting. Applies current clinical knowledge to the sim setting and readily develops relevant simulations to foster learnining, teamwork and a culture of safety. Skilled in the debriefing process and underlying theory related to simulation and emerging technology.
MSN preferred. Current Connecticut State RN Nursing licensure required. Relevant certification or demonstrated teaching / staff development experience preferred.
2-3 years of relevant program and/or teaching experience required.
